The Junie Moon blog is one month old today! I’ve had so much fun making new friends and sharing bits and pieces of my world with you that the time has zoomed on by. And looking back over the month, I realize I talk an awful lot. Oh well.
.
To thank you for the blessing of your friendship, I decided one of you out there needs an Amy Butler gift set. So off I went to the bookstore yesterday where I picked up Amy Butler's Sew-It Kit: 15 Simple and Stylish Sewing Projects for the Home.
Then I drove over to Quilter’s Market and picked up a yard of Amy Butler’s Temple Garland fabric from her Lotus collection.
And here is the whole prize package!
What You Need To Do
All you need to do is leave a comment on this post about some good deed you’ve done this week or will perform by 3 p.m. EST on Friday (which is 12 noon Tucson time). Please remember that a good deed must accompany your comment because I’m all about wanting people to share good will.
What I Will Do
I will print out each name and your blessing. Then all will be deposited in the Amy Butler Frenchy bag I made—seemed a fitting repository to me.
On Friday afternoon, the ladies at Quilter’s Market have graciously agreed to draw a name for me. This will keep things fair. I’ll announce the winner that same evening. The package will be mailed to the winning Good Deed Friend on Monday.
My giveaway is open to all my friends, no matter whether you live in an ice cave in the frozen north or a shiny silver saucer on another planet somewhere in the galaxy far, far away. A friend is a friend.
Good deeds? Hmmm.... I bought some clothes for my nephews. Does that count? :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very nice... and I'm thinking about making someone happy as people have been so kind to me lately. I have a goddaughter Nea and she's 6 years old now. She likes horses and I've gathered up a lovely package of horse themed stationary goodies for her. I will mail that tomorrow and hopefully she'll enjoy it. She lives 300km from us so we don't see that often... that's why I like to send her some special packages every now and then.
ReplyDeleteJunie, you've been a great blogger and good Flickr-friend, thank you for that! Keep on the great work...
My niece(5th grade) was telling me the other day that she had a to make a model of the layers of skin for a school project, and had no idea how to do it. So, I suggested that I pick her up from school today to get supplies, and then we would attempt her 'skin' project. I'm thinking about cushion foam stacked so that the kids can remove the different layers. We could paint each layer and label them. Not sure about the hair yet. Anyway, this is fun for me, so it hardly seems like a good deed.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a joy to read everyday, and I look forward to many more months of inspiration from it.

June - you are so sweet. Your blog is so positive, I love it! I make blankets for the babies and children at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. I'm a little behind in my blanket making so I will make one this week for sure! Thanks for the nudge.
ReplyDeleteHello Junie, Wow! what great giveaways please add me in. Let's see. This week I donated some of my pieces for a benefit fundraiser for the Wagnall Memorial Foundation. I was told that so far two of four pieces that I submitted have sold so I am excited to help bring money in for the foundation.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your good deeds comments: Lesha, Memmu, Jan, and Miss Sassy. I'm sure more will come and my heart is filled with joy with your ideas already.
ReplyDeleteJan--about the skin layer project--false eyelashes might work for the hair bits poking through the top skin layer. Just a thought off the top of my head (not being made of false eyelashes).
Very cute bag. I don't know that I have had a giving week though. Does picking up my grand baby to watch her while her parents are sick count? It is so much fun to have her here and cuddle and play with her that I think it benefitted me more than anyone else!!
ReplyDeletelets see...good deeds?
ReplyDeleteI sent a few packages out this week: 1) a housewarming gift that I made. 2) a package of handmade cards to send to my sis, so she could give them as a gift.
and this one is silly, but it was much appreciated...my friend in church on sunday was having sinus issues, and using lots of tissues, so I gave her the tissue holder that I made + had in my purse. she loved it.
what a fun idea for a give away contest! :)
Congratulations on a your first month of blogging, may there me many more in the future.
ReplyDeleteMy good deed of the week was saving a coworker from an argument that was getting quite aggressive to the point of shouting. When I intervene all calmed down and the coworker I was defending mouthed a "thank you" to me when no one was looking. It made me feel quite nice to have helped someone without even thinking about it.
I knit a cashmere moebius cowl for my oldest friend who moved to Vermont after living in New Orleans during Katrina! Winter is different in the North!
ReplyDeleteFirst -I am soooo glad you started a blog, and I look forward to visiting every morning :) How kind you are to have such amazing prizes to give away- you kindness on everything comes through your blog though. I will do something extra kind for 2 people this week, someone in the family and a stranger, will get back with you on details after. Have a happy Day, crystal xo
ReplyDeleteJune,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the false eyelash tip for my project. I would have never thought of that. You have inspired me to do more, so I will make up a box of goodies(school supplies and treats) to send to Moldova where my son is serving in the Peace Corps. He can pass them out to his middle school students. They will be thrilled!
~Jan
Oh June, you always make me really think about what I've been doing and what I really should be doing. I am almost finished with a quillow for my dad (he's been hunching under a small lap quilt I made). I will now finish it before Friday! I'm sure his cold toes will thank me.
ReplyDeleteHas it really only been a month? I feel like your blog is like a friend who is always there when I need a creative pick me up. Happy one month!
Congratulations on your one month anniversary! I love the idea of your giveaway...everyone should do atleast one good deed everyday! What have I done...I sent a goodie package off to my very best friend...just because! Does that count as a good deed?
ReplyDeleteJunie Moon, I'm so happy you started your blog! I love reading about your goings-on and I get so much inspiration and good feeling from reading.
ReplyDeletePlease don't enter me in your give-away. I do good deeds but I wouldn't be able to use your beautiful gift even though I'd probably love to wear that piece of fabric out just looking and looking at it.
One of my favorite good deeds is just a simple smile. It's so heart-warming to see the look of surprise on many people's faces at seeing your smile - and then they smile back and walk away smiling.
What a wonderful giveaway! I have enjoyed your blog. My good deed for the week will be bringing dinner to our lovely neighbors who are welcoming their third child and first boy this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteJune your a good deed doer!
ReplyDeleteI also tried to be a good deed doer this week. The Topsfield Fair began on Friday, (it's the oldest fair in America!). Volunteers help keep the fair operating. A friend and I volunteered in the flower barn. We helped carry and fetch for the people who had entries in the flower arranging competition. I had a wonderful time - is it okay to enjoy volunteer work? Even cleaning up was fun, and it was great to see much the fair attendees loved the arrangements.
Jan (thistledew)
Happy one month of blogging!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a giveaway, it really makes you have to think... Does this count as a good deed? I am going to take my parent's portrait on Friday. It is a slightly selfish good deed since I want some more portrait taking practice, but it is also because I thought it would be neat for them to have a portrait of the 2 of them. They haven't had a portrait without their kids in it in quite awhile.
What a generous giveaway. I love how you've made us focus on what we are doing good, and how we are giving back.
ReplyDeleteThe past couple of Wednesdays, and today, I've been helping with Wednesday night meals at church. I haven't signed up - just showed up and pitched in to help the ladies who cook and serve.
Wow - what a neat giveaway! Congratulations on your one month anniversary!
ReplyDeleteI organized a group of friends to send our condolences for a fellow friend's mother's passing. We sent a cookie bouquet as well as a donation in the Mother's name to the American Cancer Society.
Missy
I have so enjoyed your blog since I found it 4 days ago! My good deed...my talented and creative daughter hit writers' block when writing a cover letter. I wrote a letter proclaiming her abilities and why she would be the person hire. Then hemmed her sister's pants!
ReplyDeletedebbiathome@yahoo.com
Wow has it been a month already.??
ReplyDeleteTime flies when your having fun.
My good deed was to get the attention of some dear old ladies who were leaving the shopping centre with things still left on their car boot. They had travelled a little way before I got their attention at a roundabout. I don't know where or when they stopped but it made me warm and fuzzy inside. (Even though I would have looked like an idiot tooting and waving)
Happy One Month! &:o) Your kindness, Miss June, is as obvious as your creativity, and it's such a pleasure to get to visit you through this blog. Please don't enter me,as I'm too nervous a seamstress. But please know that you've inspired me to consciously perform some good deeds before the deadline, anyway. - Davisfarmmom
ReplyDeleteHas it been a month already?
ReplyDeleteI just yelled to my sweet husband,
"DAVID, HAVE I DONE ANY GOOD DEEDS YET THIS WEEK?"
He replied "WELL, YOU HAVEN'T KILLED ANYBODY YET"
I really try to do good deeds all along, sometimes I get tripped up.... Sorry to the guy from microsoft outlook helpdesk..... but he really provoked me!
Let's see, I agreed to help with our school's haunted Halloween party that other people dropped out of last minute although I really can't spare the time.
Sheesh, this is a lame one, huh? I'll see if I can do better by Friday :)
Look at all of these comments! Please exclude me from the drawing -- I've been the recipient of your kindness a dozen times over already. But I just wanted to say bravo!

ReplyDeleteCongrats on your 'new' blog. I'm glad I found you this week. It means I didn't miss much. I love reading your blog and viewing pics of all your wonderful projects. I'm a quilter and volunteer for http://www.firehousequilts.org Tomorrow is 'sew day' where we all meet to make quilts for small children in crisis. Tomorrow I will be dropping off one completed quilt and pick up backing and batting for two more in progress. We sew whenever we can, but meet once or twice a month. I love it and don't know if you consider that to be a 'good deed'. Seeing all your beautiful projects makes me want to try using Amy Butler fabric and patterns. Thanks so much for the inspiration from all you do. You are such a generous person.
ReplyDeleteI just deleted this post because I didn't know how to edit my post. Sorry...here it is with corrections. :(
Congrats on the first month! I know that you will enjoy a long and rewarding blogging career. :) Right now I am knitting a teddy bear for my dad because he has been hinting at wanting one for a while now. I plan on finishing it tomorrow. I hope he likes it!
ReplyDelete1 Month of Great Posts!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI made an Apple Pandowdy for My Mom, Brother & Girlfriend. They are staying with my Mom for 2 weeks(until there new place is ready to move in)I thought they might Like a little Treat! My Mom, my children & I hand picked the Apples at a Orchard here in the Georgia Mountains! Fun:O)

What a great idea for a give away. This week, today in fact, I was honored by a clerk at the grocery store who admired my fabric shopping bag. I have made several and had an extra one with me so I gave it to her. She was very thankful and I was happy to oblige. good luck with your cotinued blogging!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're finally blogging! I've been enjoying your photos on Flickr for too long... ;)
ReplyDeleteI try to do good deeds every day, but my big one this week is organizing free art classes for low-income kids on Sunday afternoons, our first class is this week! (and I'm the teacher!) :)
Dear June
ReplyDeleteI was just emailing you to thank you for commenting on my blog and then thought I should leave you a meaasage on yours but could not find it in the club little house list Blogspotter to the rescue !! What a great blog you have -- so positve - Gee I can sure use some of your husband relationship techniques And its an inspiration to put more into my blog.
Ive really loved the club little house experinece and becoming connected to wonderful creative wome like you.
Its really generous to provide the giveaway and a lovely idea - it seems like a blog thing that is really nice.
Now I am from the frozen north - Canada - but with global warming its pretty balmy here in Toronto/ Its amazing to communcate with people around the world who share interests in common.
A good deed - let me think - what have i done this week. Ive been a good lisitener for my boss as she puzzels out what she wants to do with her career and whether to stay or go and have not betrayed her confidence. Ive donated an armoire to my sons school to hold supplies. I diffused tension between my 7 yr old and my husband so everyone had a good morning. I worked late to get work done so my boss would look good. I listened to a colleague' tale of woe sympathetically. I gave up my seat on the transit and made plans to take a friend out She is a recent breast cancer surviovr - I year - who is dealing with he dad's serious illness andher husbands double hip replacement and 3 young kids.
Thank you for asking us to think about our deeds - it helped me to shine a little light on them insrtead of hurrying on to the next thing to do. It also helped me reaize tehre were a few coulda woulda shoulda opportunites for good deeds that I let pass by.
Good luck with your blog I will be checking it and finding out how to get blog update notices.
Take care
JunieMoon--you are just the sweetest gal! I enjoy and am inspired by your blog and your generous and loving spirit--congratulations on hitting the one month mark already! I try and commit RAK's (random acts of kindness) as often as I can--and try not to let one slip by me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite one recently was at the department store. I was behind an elderly gentelman in line and he wrote out a check to pay for his purchase (he had a pack of socks and a small pack of batteries)--and the clerk asked for his ID, which he didn't have. She proceeded to treat him rudely and basically told him he would have to come back at some later date with his ID and grabbed his stuff and shoved it under the counter. I told her to pull it back out and paid for it and gave it to him. He actually had tears in his eyes when he thanked me. So for around $12 I was able to really make someone happy and also (hopefully) gave an example to that store clerk to show a little respect and compassion to others.
I'll respectfully withdraw myself from your drawing--but just wanted to share my story and tell you how wonderful this idea is! Yeah JunieMoon!
Smiles, Karen
Hi, Just found your blog and look forward to your posts. My friend Jill, who has a blog at www.bittersweetsoap.com (along with her wonderful business website) has a "caring and sharing" philosophy which, I believe, has certainly been a help to me lately. I try to do things for others without a "tit for tat" mentality--do something because it's the right thing to do, not for what it will get you in return. I feel like I try daily to be polite to folks--holding doors open, letting others with fewer items get infront of me in store check-out lines, etc.. The one deed (I guess you can call it that)I am the happiest with came about on a recent trip. We were in a terminal, waiting for our plane, and struck up a conversation with a young military man making a surprise visit to his pregnant wife (due to be induced the next day!) I slipped up to the attendant on duty and told her about the guy and asked if they would upgrade his seat. A few minutes later, they surprised him with a "first class seat". He was thrilled and I felt so happy to have secretly been a part of making that special trip home more comfortable for a guy sacrificing so much.
ReplyDeleteJunie,
ReplyDeleteI am working on a "good deed" and hope to spend more time on it yet this week. I am finishing a cloth doll that my once-little-girl began. She made the body, drew on the face, sewed the underthings, but the rest was left undone. I'm stitching up the dress, shoes, hair and all and plan to give it to her for Christmas this year.
I WILL sew on Dilly Dolly for my Grace.
I would love to be entered in your gift-away. You're so kind!
~Jody
We're hosting a give-away, too. Stop by and check it out.
ReplyDeleteAs for good deeds, today I attended a funeral service with my mother-in-law, it was for her best friend's father-in-law. (sound a little diluted?) My mother-in-law was grateful for the company and her friend was glad both of us were there to support the family.
Happy one month, June. I knew you'd be smashing at this, and so you are!
ReplyDeleteLove you.
I just found your blog through Mrs. Kwitty's link list. Since I'm new here I'm not going to enter your draw - I just wanted to say that I love the mosaic in your title bar.
ReplyDeleteJunie, what a peach you are! This week a friend of mine was not only sick, in the hospital, with a horrible flu but her boyfriend also broke up with her. I made her a gift bag with homemade chicken noodle soup, a fun girly magazine and big piece of chocolate mousse cake from one of our fave restaurants. Just wanted to say thanks for your giveaway!
ReplyDeleteJunie, you are so generous. I hope that your gift package goes to someone deserving, and I hope that someone is me! Mwa ha ha. :)
ReplyDeleteOK. Good deed. In church on Sunday I approached someone new and made small talk. Does that count? For a shy person like me it was a big stretch.
Loved reading the comments here, by the way. It's great that your blog focuses on the positive. Love your blog!!!
Loved your idea of the good deeds. So important to pass the love around! I am involved in a shawl ministry at my church. We knit and crochet shawls with prayer, and then they are blessed and delivered to people in the community and beyond. Usually the recipient is someone who has had a loss or is ill, or is in need. The ministry was begun by two women in CT, and you can see their website at www.shawlministry.com. In any case, two shawls were recently completed, and I picked them up yesterday at church, and have one packed up and ready to be sent to a wonderful man battling cancer, who has just been told he only has a few months more to live. I am hoping he will wrap himself in the shawl and feel enfolded in the love and prayers.
ReplyDeleteThis is a small thing, but we had some relatives visitng and I made my nephew his very favorite coffee cake recipe for breakfast. : )
ReplyDeleteJune! You are so sweet! I heart all your sweet comments on my blog, and your fun blog is so inspiring to read! Yes, keep up the great work you do!
ReplyDeleteAnother fan of your sweet blog comments that help lift my day! Some small things done in the last couple days: delivering bouquets of basil and parsley from my herb garden, helping a woman load her groceries in the parking lot while she loaded the baby :>), agreeing to send some of my cross-stitch designs to a fundraiser for a unit's soldiers in Iraq, loaning a friend a favorite book . . . Hmm, interesting to think over your "deeds"
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet! I just did the Pay It Forward thing thats going around and giveaways feel so good!
ReplyDeleteI just gave three bags of stuff to a hospice thrift store this morning.
I re-designed my friend's resume so it's professional and impressive. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou're a good friend to all of us Junie. What a generous giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to enter the contest, just sayin', you're one in a million.
I am so bummed I missed this!!! Dumb 'ol internet service!
ReplyDelete
