Yesterday was a lovely day for baking. I made Madeleines Aux Citron from a recipe in Victoria magazine’s Spring 2008 newsletter (initially published in Tea Time magazine, Summer 2005). An hour with my book, a cup of tea, and a fresh-baked Madeleine—ah, what bliss!
I sprinkled a bit of sanding sugar from Williams-Sonoma, but you can also just use powdered sugar as the recipe suggests.
Here’s a little French tidbit I just found out: Marie Claire Idées magazine now has a blog. And if you’re a big fan of that magazine, there’s also a Flickr group.
And this is what I made with their free project, cute covered pencils. Here’s a hint about their project if you’re like me and can’t read French—click on each picture and it will bring up a PDF version for you to save and print. You can do the same project with any pretty paper you already have at home, including gift wrap.

ReplyDeleteI love pencils to write with. Our pencil sharpener stopped working a few months ago and it is just one of those things we haven't replaced yet.
ReplyDeleteNow it is on my list again....then I will make some pretty pencils to write in my journal with. Thanks :-)
MarieClaire has a blog? Oh my, I'll have to go over right away! I love their ideas! Their magazine is very hard to come by here in UT. Thank you for the hint! I love the pencils!
ReplyDeleteThose pencils are precious, they'd be perfect for spring time gifts for all the little ones I know, and maybe a few me too. Thanks for posting them.
ReplyDeleteThe cookies look yummy! Perfect with a cup of tea and a book. What are you reading?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Marie Claire Idee's blogspot. I bookmarked it right away. I can't find the magazine anywhere, but Amazon has subscriptions. They're kind of pricey... so I'm mulling it over.
Have another cookie!
Hugs,
Joni
Those look so good Junie.
ReplyDeleteI need to get a madeline pan.

Mmmmmmmmm....Madeleines! They look so good!
ReplyDeleteWhen my son lived in Boulder, Co he lived very close to the Celestial Seasonings factory. When my husband and I visited we would walk over to the factory hospitality center and sample all the teas -- I think at the time they had over 80 different ones to sample! What fun! I loved Bengal Spice the best and bought a carton.
They have since changed ownership and the hospitality center has fewer samples.:-(
Go to the web site, www.celestialseasonings.com and if you have two different Celestial Seasoning teas in your home you can enter their UPC numbers and join a new free book club they are sponsoring and get some nice freebies with the membership! I joined today!
Going to check out Marie Claire's blog now --- thanks!
Mmm. Madeleines look great.
ReplyDeleteHow did you adhere your paper to your pencil? I used babel fish and it looks like they suggest decoupage or two-sided tape (perhaps - wasn't the grates translation).
I don't drink tea but, today I went to the loveliest Victorian home for lunch with some friends.. The ladies were dressed in Victorian attire..Those cookies look delicious.
ReplyDeleteI wish you lived closer so you could
give me a sewing lesson.. You come up
with the greatest projects.. I guess I am never to old to learn.. Now, I just need to find a few extra minutes..ha!!
Man,those Madelines look great! Thanks for all the great links -- I'm drooling over here!
ReplyDeleteOh, these look so wonderful!! Thanks for the tip on the Marie Claire Idees blog, I am going to check it out now :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the goodies links. Just one Madeleine? Only one? i'll definitely check that blog.
