Halloween Party Blog Hop: Practical Magic Movie Night

My blog is participating in today’s Halloween Party Blog Hop hosted by A Fanciful Twist blog.

I’m hosting a Practical Magic movie night, something I’ve watched each year in October since the movie was first released. I love this movie.

Here’s your invitation. I used old movie reels my husband had. Each invitation was printed on paper I carefully cut into “film strips” and wrapped around the reel. A graphic of the house in the movie worked for the label.

Goodies are being concocted in the cauldron on the stove and almost ready.

Here’s the menu.

The Sweet Bones and Witch Fingers are ready for munching (click links for Martha Stewart’s recipes).

Decorations are in place and the table set. Let’s talk and laugh as we eat.

The movie is in the DVD player, let the magical story unfold.

When I recently visited the island of Curaçao, I bought a bottle of their special liqueur just to make the following recipe.

Time for Midnight Margaritas and a dancing frolic around the house to Harry Nelson’s "Lime in the Coconut” music! Click on the recipe to enlarge for printing—just like magic. Click this link for the YouTube video of the movie’s Midnight Margaritas scene to get you going—have your drink ready first!

After all the food we’ve eaten, the margaritas we’ve drunk by the gallon as we danced, and the excitement of the movie, we’re sleepy and it’s time to say goodnight. But don’t forget your party favor, a tote for each of you. I printed the original movie logo on fabric and sewed it to each bag.

What’s inside the totes? Here’s one of the surprises—Star of Love spell kits (just like in the movie itself), complete with a candle, small cauldron, instructions, and all you need to keep love in your life. All else hidden in the bag is a mysterious secret.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my movie party—thank you for coming. To quote Aunt Jet: "There's a little witch in all of us."

I watch Practical Magic every October too! I love the movie! My fave quote is:
But there are some things I know for certain: always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can.
Who wouldn't love the Owen Aunts that lets you eat Brownies for Breakfast & Midnight Margaritas!

  53. I had the pleasure of meeting June and her friend Donna on the cruise she's mentioned in her blog. What a fun, inspirational, smart, generous, considerate, creative creature she is! Meeting her was one of the highlights of my trip. She gave us tissue holders, and all my friends have marveled over it, so I've signed up for sewing lessons so I can make them some, too! Her Japanese knot bags are MUCH nicer than the original posted by Helen. I've bought fabric so I can make one in my first lesson next Sunday.

Oh! I met her husband, too! Such a gentleman, and it seems as though there's a bit of creative wit in him, too. The fact that he had those reel tins must mean they were made for each other!

Thanks, June, for sharing your creative talents, knowledge, and travels with us. I look forward to reading more!
