Letters, Quilts, and Sewing Adventures
Woman Writing Letters by Charles Dana Gibson
Letters and Quilts
According to Positive Thinking magazine, the week of January 6 through 12 is Letter Writing Week. When is the last time you received a real letter? I don’t mean someone’s annual Christmas letter but a real, honest-to-goodness handwritten letter? I miss receiving those, don’t you?
Today I’m handwriting a letter to our youngest grandchild telling her how much we love her and the story behind her doll quilts. Since I promised to make two quilts, here’s the second one I made yesterday. This one uses what I call “cheater fabric” as the little squares are already there. I just layered the fabric front with batting and a cotton backing, quilted around each little square, and then sewed on the binding.
Finn and Donk’s Sewing Adventure
Kelli of Africankelli and Finny of Finny Knits have announced their new 2008 sew-along entitled Finn and Donk’s Sewing Adventure. Our first project will be the Button Scarf from the book chosen for our 2008 projects: Simple Gifts to Stitch: 30 Elegant and Easy Projects by Jocelyn Worrall.
I’m looking forward to this new year of challenges and hope lots of you join in the fun. We learn so much from each other.

Your doll quilts are lovely and thanks for the tip on the "sewing adventure" :)
Another adorable quilt :) I do miss getting letters in the mail. Will write some this week :) Can't wait to see your next project :)

I think both quilts are great, and I'm so impressed you have the patience to quilt around hose teeny squares!
The second quilt is adorable too. Everything you so is lovely... you focus on detail. You;ve been a wealth of ideas and thoughts. So glad I found you in blogland.
By the way... I'm knitting! Slowly, but getting there. I won't have quantity for you but what I finish will be filled with love.
Hugs,
Joni
Your heart quilt yesterday made my heart sing, June. I just love it! Your granddaughter will cherish it, I'm sure! And the thought of your hubby in the toy store cracked me up.
As for the national letter writing week - you know I'm ALWAYS for that!
Thanks for the plug.
YEs I do miss 'real' letters! Love your quilts June! Fantastic!
My goodness- I can't remember the last letter I received! I get notes every so often from a blog friend or with some pictures from Mother, but a real letter...probably from my Grandmother, who died 20 years ago this April. She was a lifelong letter writer (& a thank-you card freak) who would cross write & go all along the margins (unfortunately, she had dreadful handwriting :-P)
Your doll quilts are adorable- I especially like the word picture of your husband choosing the "right" dolly at the store :-)
The sew-along sounds fun- but I am getting a bit bogged down already- 4 quilts in progress, along with backed up knitting *sigh*
That is so nice. It's so much fun to get mail like that.
Your quilts are the best!!

Hand-written letters are a wonderful way to connect with a friend! Thanks for sharing!

I loved receiving letters in the mail! It was such a special treat to take the time to read a letter and then reply. E-mail just doesn't have the same charm, does it?
You gave me an idea -- I think I'll write a love letter to my husband and mail it on the right day so that he gets to find it in the mailbox this weekend -- what a nice and unexpected surprise that will be for him!
Thanks, June, for the inspiration

The quilts are adorable! Where can I buy doll quilt panels? I've searched the web and have come up dry.
