Fabric Vase

This morning I decided to try making a fabric vase. I used a McCall’s pattern for this project and home decorator fabric as suggested in the instructions.

Because it’s made from fabric, I won’t use it for real flowers. Instead, I decided to use it for my knitting needles.

Last night I tried a new recipe from the February/March 2008 issue of Cook’s Country magazine. It took me what seemed like forever, but I made General Tso’s Chicken and it actually came out as well as that made in Chinese restaurants. My assessment is that the recipe is great, but it would be cheaper and less time-consuming to just go to a restaurant.

The same magazine had a recipe for Chinese-style Rice so I made that as well. Some pea pods on the side and our menu was complete. Yummy!

What a nice needle vase! You are so clever and sewing savvy.
As much as you can eat at a Chinese buffet it's not cost effective to do it at home!!!

Oh June this is just beautiful.
What a great idea you are using it for and I'm sure we could all come up with lots of uses for these fabric vases. Very sweet. I'm sure it's matching in with your decore.

Well, that chicken definitely looks like it came straight from the restaurant -- yum! I love your assessment of it, though. I've come away many times after trying to re-create a take-out favorite thinking the very same thing. :) Still, it's fun to try.

I really enjoy the way you put your fabric vase to good use :-)
The chicken looks awesomely yummy; you know, I find the same thing with making lasagne- more cost efficient to buy one :-/

The vase is lovely and the fabric is so appealing. I have knitting needles all over the place. I lovr your solution. I need to start following some of your organizational tips and 'have a place for everything'. How long can a list get??

Your dinner looks yummy. That's one of Boyd's favorites.

Thanks for the soothing chat yesterday. All is right with the world... and my daughter... and the goodie bags.
Hugs,
Joni

Beautiful vase June! I love the blue and white. I chuckled at your "cheaper to go to the restaurant" comment -- isn't that so often the truth. But there's just something about being able to do it yourself that draws us in!

That is a beautiful vase, and I love the way used it. Maybe you could make another one and throw in some knit flowers (I'm sure you need me to add to your to do list) haha
Your dinner looks delicious, I love the peas. I wish I wasn't the only one in my house that liked them.

I love that fabric vase. I can also envision it with a rich paisley or brocade silk fabric perhaps in deep red and gold ... what to put in it? ... what about a peacock feather or maybe a long, bushy dried pampas grass. I'll stop dreaming now -- thank you for this eye candy!

Beautiful vase!
That is my husband's favorite Chinese dish, can you share the recipe with me? I can only eat Chinese food if I make it...it's a weird "carol thing" that I won't go into here. Anyway, let me know.
