Amy Butler Birdie Sling

When ordering Amy Butler’s laptop and iPOD pattern, I also ordered her new Birdie Sling pattern and gave it a try. For once I didn’t say any bad words when making one of Amy’s projects. There wasn’t any Timtex to fight and everything was pretty straightforward.

This bag is huge and will probably be the one I use most all summer.

These are the fabrics I used.

I noticed that Amy’s new patterns do not call for Timtex and thought maybe she decided against using it as the air turns blue for those working with her patterns—a bio-hazard, I’m sure. But no, the real reason is because Timtex is no longer being made. So, for those of us with a lot of Amy Butler patterns in our stash, there’s an excellent review about potential substitutions to consider on the Craft Apple blog.

What a cute bag! I had to chuckle at your post - I know I've muttered a few choice words during sewing projects!

Pretty bag! Having never been able to get my hands on real Timtex anyway, I won't mourn the loss.

not cursing during sewing? I didn't know that was an option. That is a wonderful bag, it looks perfect for heading out in the summer.

LOVE your fabric choices. It looks great on you Junie.
Hey -- did you figure out the gussets? I still can't master that part. I just made the folded corners like a squared off tote.

I love your new bag and I too have some Posh charm packs. Thought I'd make a big patchwork bag with mine? Or a small lap quilt. Love the fabric.

Cute bag June! And I do love hearing that there's no Timtex or other Amy Butler like thicknesses. I thought that the Sophia Carry All bag was going to destroy my sewing machine it had so many layers. This new pattern does look perfect for summer.

Wonderful bag June! Lovely fabrics.
We didn’t have TimTex in Holland anyway. We only can buy Fast2Fuse and I don’t like that is is folded when they send it to you. When you want to stabilize something you don‘t like folds do you?

I just finished this bag! I made it smaller, just because I wanted to use it as a purse instead of a tote! I will definately be making more! :)
