Organize Your Home Day

January is traditionally a time for organizing. I am a little sheep so I’m following along. Right now I’m working on cabinets.

Years ago the inimitable Martha Stewart talked about organizing little kits at home. Remembering this, I’ve organized a few things that otherwise get scattered all over the place. Metal boxes found at Cost Plus and simple labels using my electronic labeling gadget work just fine.

Leather Care

It’s not all sneakers and sandals at our house so I have a kit for caring for our leather shoes and bags. I’m fully aware of the green movement urging us away from leather, but I am not going to discard functional items I use.

Each time we travel, we usually find flannel shoe cloths in our hotel welcome kit and save them for cleaning projects. They’re great in the leather and jewelry cleaning kits.

Nail Care

Stuff for home manicures and pedicures for those in-between professional treatment times.

Jewelry Care

Some of the flannel cloths go in this box. About every two weeks I gather our jewelry pieces and gently clean them. I have my wedding ring settings checked annually by a professional.

This is such a good idea. I happen to be a big fan of kits as it is, and am having a lot of trouble corralling our stuff. Now I have a workable solution!

You are so well organized. It’s my personal goal for 2008, to get organized. I’m decluttering my working place and have three big boxes to devide everything into private, craft and clients stuff. Then I will devide the contents of the big boxes into smaller ones. I hope it works!

Wow June! Wonderful organization tips!
You are very wise to check your wedding ring settings checked once a year. I lost the diamond from my engagement ring about 15 years ago. Luckily it was lost in my house and my son found it in my dish drainer. Needless to say I had more prongs added to secure it at that time, and when my son was married three years ago my husband had my ring reset as a surprise for me!

You made me laugh when you compared yourself to a sheep... just following the gang along? Cute mental image!

That is great organization. I need to do that sometime, but can't figure how to squeeze that in also.

Someday...

I'm on the organizing bandwagon as well! I've used some of the plastic shoe boxes for storing stuff in the linen closet ~ I do like your metal boxes much better though :)

I love organizing. Great idea for a topic on my blog. I just organized the kids' art supplies and just bought a craft organizer! Still more to go, but I tend to be doing a lot in January too. Keep up the good work!

Nice kits...everything in its place...just as it should be. That's what I've been working on, especially with my tools. I hate starting a project and not having everything all together.

I love the idea for the kits. I really try to get organized but I seem to not have a knack for it. I have even lost my camera charger over the past 2 weeks.....no I didn't put it away where I normally put it. So, I may actually have to stop posting again until I find it or order a new one. I might be hopeless in the organization department!!
