The Not-going-to-happen Bag

Have you ever worked on a project that made you feel inept?

Yesterday I tried to make the purportedly simple bag from Sew Pretty Homestyle by Tilda. How hard could this possibly be? Well, it stumps me.

I thought it would be perfect as an Easter “basket” for my sister Connie. Just the right fabrics for the exterior and lining were in my stash. And I was going to use the lining material to make the fabric rose from the book to pin to the bag.

There’s a blog devoted to Tilda projects I found while searching for errata about the book last night. Someone posted a picture of the bag they successfully made but no process notes are provided.

But the bag is a non-event because after trying to make it three times, I have temporarily given up. I can usually figure out instructions but something is wrong—either with the book’s directions or my brain cells fell out while I’ve been ill. Have any of you tried this project and figured out what to do?

The good news is that it is officially Spring Equinox. Happy Spring to all of you!

June, if *you* couldn't do it, there was something definitely wrong with the instructions. I imagine you can do anything. I hope you are feeling better.

Spring? We are getting snow again tomorrow. I am depressed about that a bit... I did make the coupon organizer you posted as well as the seat belt sleeve. Blogged about them yesterday. Thanks for the instructions!

Happy Spring June!

Sorry, I am two left thumbs when it comes to sewing so I can't help you. Perhaps if you tried modifying the project to use a method you are familiar with it will turn out acceptable? Such pretty fabrics --I'm sure your sister would love it!

Hugs, Pat

I wish I could beam myself over to try to help you. If the instructions were wrong we'd figure out something for ourselves to make it work. Maybe you could contact my sweet friend Crystal. I saw she made something similar and maybe should could help you with details.

OH NO! How depressing. Looks like you have a few comments with some extra help, I'll know where to come if I try to tackle it.
Hope you get it finished.

Gosh June, I'm sorry to hear it didn't go well. I have that book, but haven't tried the bag. I wish I were there -- not that I know the answers any better than you, but maybe the two heads are better than one theory would prevail. And if not, it would just be fun to play LOL!

Okay...we looked at the cutest of the bag...but if you are having problems...then we will not even attempt!

How brave to confess a mistake! It proably needs to ferment for a day or so before the answer presents itself. Good Luck!

I absolutely love this bag and was planning on sewing a few up. Perhaps I need to rethink this?

On the upside - Happy Spring, Ms. Junie Moon.

If you can't do it nobody can. I can't sew at all!
Happy Spring and Easter!

Hi, June! I, of course, haven't attempted this bag, but I did post a question in the craft forums I use to see if anyone in that community has completed one. Perhaps I can connect you with someone who has.

Although, I have to second sassypriscilla: "June, if "you" couldn't do it, there was something definitely wrong with the instructions."

I'll let you know if I get any helpful hits!

Hi there! I haven't tried the bag, but have made other projects from that book. The directions and measurements do not convert well. I had to remake several things as well before I finally just gave up and used the ideas, but made them my own. You can check out some of my stuff on my blog or the Tilda Addict blog you mentioned.
Good luck!
