Time to Give

I’ve been working on my giving projects and, now that I’m feeling much better, my packages are going out in today’s mail.

Wash Cloths

Knitted cotton wash cloths are being sent to the Loves Many Cloths
group to which I belong for delivery to a domestic assault shelter.

Acts of Kindness

One of my blog readers, KJ, doesn’t sew but admired the coupon organizer I made. So I’ve created one for her and, in return, KJ agreed to pay the kindness forward by doing a good deed for someone else.

I used fabrics from my stash.

Joni of Yummers! wants to see what the Marie Claire Idées magazine is all about. Since I have extra copies of various issues, I’m sending those to her along with some other things. In turn, she is also doing a pay-it-forward project.

Gifts of Friendship

Crystal of Fairiebees
was so sweet to send me a book to read which helped enormously while I was sick. As my thank you, I’m returning her book, adding some for her to enjoy, and including some extra key fob pieces I have which she can’t find at her local store so she can make new key rings.

Works in Progress

I’m helping with a school project called The Flat Stanley World Tour Project which I listed as one of my goals in one of my January
posts. It’s a project for the first graders at a school in Canada attended by the daughter of Angie (Norththreads blog) which they created after reading the book Flat Stanley.

In my case, the version I received is entitled Flat Avery after the child organizing this particular aspect of the project. Flat Avery arrived at my house on Saturday via Norway which is quite exciting. I am to take Flat Avery out in the Tucson area and photograph her in action in my community and collect souvenir things to include in the package I’ll mail on to someone else. How fun is this and such a great learning tool for the children!

I’ll be out and about with Flat Avery today. She is going to get her eyes checked at the ophthalmologist, see what cacti looks like, and have other assorted adventures.

Can you see Avery’s little paper self on the right in the picture? So adorable.

Projects are in the works for the Special Olympics to be sold to help raise funds for this worthwhile endeavor. My sister and I have made this an annual tradition to work on together. She does stained glass art pieces while I sew things. Last year I made sets of quilted patchwork coasters to donate.

Are you working on good deed giving projects? I’d love to hear new ideas that you are willing to share.

Ooooooooo Junie Moon. I am so excited to see the little heart. I have the cutest doll-size wicker chair that I'm going to put it in. And the magazines... WOW! I can't wait to curl up with those and get motivated. You are soooooooo sweet!! And yes... I paid it forward with art and scrapbooking supplies for some little girls who can't get supplies in their missionary location. Actually... I have another bundle ready to go out to them this week.

Mr Yummers is at a meeting at the capital today and I have the whole day to myself. I have a sinus infection and taking antibiotics so he left lunch for me in the fridge. Such a sweetie.

We watched the DVD "Death at a Funeral" last night and we laughed from beginning to end. I need to buy it. A MUST SEE!!
Hugs,
Joni

What wonderful examples of your generosity and caring.
My goal is not so much a project, but the gift of spending time with a little first grader whom I met last week. I was his surrogate grandmother for the school's annual Grandparent's Day. He is from Romania and was in an orphanage until he was three.
He asked in all seriousness if he could call me Grandma. Of course, I said yes. I called his parents that evening to tell them what a great time I had and what a delightful little guy he is. He does not have any grandparents in his adoptive family, so my goal is to keep going back to school, listen to him in reading group, eat lunch with him now and then. It will be a gift to me as well.

I just want to thank you for posting this. I am having such an awful day, I've quite literally been holding back tears. Now I'm crying but because I'm so happy that there are nice people out there.
Thank you so much, I really needed that reminder. It makes everything seem a little brighter. It doesn't hurt that everything is beautiful.

June, what wonderful things you are doing. I really perked up at the mention of Canada. Sadly, the only thing I'm working on right now that may be considered a 'kindness' are two sets of my own homemade photo greeting cards. I'm attaching the photos by hand (using tiny double sided tape) to the cardstock and then will sign the back of the card in a discrete manner so they may use them to send to other friends or those they write.

I love each of these wonderful things you are involved in! It's serious food for thought ... I shall choose someone to begin a pay-it-forward as you have done. Thank you.

June you are truely a lovely, giving sole. All your projects are beautiful. I'm sure it will insire other to be so generous, including myself.
I have my three PIF projects ready to go out. I'm also doing a personal swap with a lovely lady that admired my Amy Butler fabrics and had the guts to ask for some. She in turn is sending me some fabrics and a Japanese Bag Book.
This is how the world should work. Swapping, giving, kindness.
Thank you June for being so inspiring to all of us.

Wow, June! You are so inspirational! I love how you use your talents to help others, and how you profile nice events and good causes in other people's blogs.

I like the term "pay it forward". The world would be a better place if we could all do good deeds for others and share our good fortunes.

I am giving a donation to an animal rescue group in honor of my daughter's cat who passed away a few days ago, and when my daughter feels ready for a new cat she plans of getting a rescue cat who would otherwise have no home.

I am putting my thinking cap on! Love the wash cloths idea. I was a battered women's counselor prior to having my own children and things like this are soooo appreciated. Kudos for paying it forward. I think you're wonderful!

I'd love to hear more about how you got involved with the Special Olympics. Was there a specific site to obtain more info?

Thank you for this post Junie. It does us all good to hear about these kindnesses.

I've started knitting small blankets for shelter cats...specifically the group where my own "Cricket" came from. I know she approves...she claimed the first one!!

Thanks again Junie.

You're the BEST, Junie!!
I'm working on a family cookbook for my daughter before she marries in May. Compiling gobs of tried-and-true recipes into one place. Memories are flooding me as I type.
