Knitting Along in 2010

Relaxing is something I’m not very good at doing. From the minute I wake up in the morning to the moment it’s time to go to bed again, I’m busy at some activity or another. Even as I try to go to sleep, my brain is concocting my to-do list for the next day. My husband worries it’s going to be the cause of my demise.

To mediate this, I’m trying a slow-time method to end my day. I’m keeping a knitting project by my favorite chair for the evenings. This allows me to still keep my hands busy but is soothing enough to invoke relaxation. Instead of flitting about from one thing to another, I can sit in our family room with my husband which makes him happy.

After reading about a year-long Knit-Along (KAL) on the greetingarts blog, I popped over to KrisKnits’ blog to join her monthly dish/wash cloths KAL. You don’t know what the pattern is going to eventually be, but it makes for an easy yet fun knitting project. At the end of the year, I’ll have 12 new cloths to use or give as gifts.

Fortunately I already had what I need for January’s project in my stash. I immediately knit the rows she’s revealed thus far and am now caught up to the group. It’s not too late to join, if you’re interested in this KAL.

I worry the same thing for you! But the knitting idea at the end of the day is something that may help. You are definitely the most productive person I know!

I've actually been spending time each evening winding down with crochet projects. I'm still working on simple projects (scarves), but hope to learn something more challenging soon. Can't wait to see how your KAL turns out! :)

I also like to have a knitting project on the go for slowing myself down in the evenings. It has to be pretty simple for me, though, I'm a beginner. But the rhythm of the needles and the yarn in my hands is very soothing.

I'm off to check out the link.

Sounds like a really fun KAL June - and how cool to have all those dishcloths available at Christmas! I'm like you and it drives my hubby nuts. One of us is going to go nuts, so I say it should be him LOL.

June I am the Ying to your Yang! I have the opposite problem of being a procrastinator and day dreamer! We should get together and even each other out...lol

Knitting looks so relaxing..sit, enjoy, and don't stress out with "keeping up"! :-)

Recently, my friend Patty tried to show me how to knit. I didn't do too well. Then she started me on crochet. I did a little better with that, and I'm trying to practice, as soon we will be making preemie hats to donate to a charity that her friend Vicki participates in. I hope I can catch on to the pattern. I'm a little worried.

I have to admit, dear Junie, that it makes me a little bit uncomfortable sometimes to read about all that you accomplish everyday. I've often wondered, when you take time to simply be, and let your mind wander to quiet places. I need to let go of my tendencies to be a perfectionist, and actually finish things. Having a goal of donating to the charity might help me with that, as I really want to give to them. So much in life is about growth, and finding a balance, isn't it?
