Waffling Around

At the beginning of November, I was reading Deb’s post at Homespun Living about the wonderful waffle-knit dishcloths she’d knitted. I have been thinking about her project ever since and finally had a chance to make some this week.

Deb used Lion-brand cotton for her cloths. When I couldn’t find any in stock in the colors I wanted at Jo-Ann’s or Michael’s, I went to Purls. They suggested a yarn from Norway called Paris in the two colors I wanted. The label says it is “100% Kjemmet bomuli” which the ladies at Purls tell me means cotton.

While I absolutely love the silky smoothness of this yarn, it’s way too expensive for dishcloths as it works out to about $7.50 per cloth—outrageous in my opinion.

I hope my dishes magically turn into solid gold overnight to justify being washed with these cloths. Since that won’t happen, I photographed them with one of my gold charger plates to remind me of my insanity.

I’ll stick with the mundane cheaper cotton yarn in future and have since found Deb’s more reasonable choices. Sometimes I’m too impatient to start and finish a project—a lesson learned.

My grandma used to make these, but heres weren't that pretty, she just used up mismatched scraps.

I'd say ues them and enjoy them, washing dishes sucks, anything that makes it better is worth it!

Maybe too nice for dishcloths, but now you have the experience of using that yarn, and some day when you have a really special project, you'll know about that option.

Well they are truly rich and gorgeous. I just love those colors. There is a lot of that burgundy in our home!

I hope that they will make washing dishes more fun!

I think they are very pretty... especially on a gold charger. Sorry to say I'm not very green when it comes to dishclothes. I like to throw them away. My husband is an Environmental Geologist but goes along with my disposable cloths.

I wouldn't be opposed to knitting a few to fold in a pretty basket by the sink or as a gift with a fancy dish soap.
Thanks for the pattern, June.

I made lots of washcloths in the past few months. Found a huge spool of cotton yarn at WalMart...for around $7.00. Yours are so gorgeous though...enjoy!

veryyy purty! Lovely! You sure whip up the eye candy. Happy New Year! They are so pretty, at first glance I thought they were cup warmers to sit under your hot cuppa cocoa.

June! Wait maybe instead of using them for dishes use them with a wonderful, heavenly soap of body wash and use them on YOU instead! Ohhhhh...when taking a long hot shower or when using one of your fab homemade face washes. Yep...if those were mine thats what I would do!

Wowie, that is expensive. But knitting with good yarn (really good yarn) is SUCH a treat, isn't it? I'm busy working on my bandages.
