Handspun Yarn Shawl

Last fall when attending the Celtic Festival here in Tucson, I visited a vendor who offered homespun yarns. Kathy of Withers Ranch raises llamas, angora goats, sheep and alpacas on her ranch in Tucson. She specializes in fleeces, handspun yarns, and woven and knitted items as well as teaching knitting, spinning, felting, and weaving. Kathy also writes a blog.

I bought two wool skeins she’d spun which I wound on my yarn winder at home. One is a freeform yarn (on left in my photo) and both are a mixture of thick and thin yarn. The lovely dark and pale dusty pinks mixed with cream are evocative of a rosy dawn—and soft as a morning should be.

Kathy also designs knitting patterns that work beautifully with her yarns. I used both yarns to knit Kathy’s “Barbara’s Shawl” pattern on 47-inch US 11 Addi Turbo circular needles. Yesterday was my big finish.

I love the texture and rich flow of colors. It feels so romantic wearing my newly-knitted shawl as I wander in my tiny garden in the coolness of the morning.

I love the texture and colours. I sent my daughter a link to this post, she bought similiar wool in beautiful shades of blues and greens and I thought she'd like to see what it knit up like.
Have a blessed day

Kari just started knitting. She knitted a scarf (which she loved) and then she started to knit a hat (which was kind of a pain)...maybe she should try a shawl (she does love a good shawl)!

Have a blessed and wonderful day!

That is wonderful!! The color and texture are divine, I don't know why but I feel like you must curl up and watch a Jane Austen movie while wearing it and drinking tea.

Both the yarn and the shawl are beautiful. I love the shape of the shawl. It looks like the perfect weight too, for your climate, or a cool summer evening like we have in our parts.
